BIO

Small towns, cornfields and prairies are what I grew up in and around as a native Nebraskan. I get a little too excited when I come across landscapes that have even a moderate rise or fall in elevation.

I graduated with a degree in journalism and advertising, then worked for various newspapers as a sports writer and editor for a decade. Sports was my first real passion but has since been surpassed by my fondness of nature and the outdoors. I never turn down a chance to go hiking.

The only thing that rivals my love for the outdoors is my hunger for stories. The best part about being a journalist is the privilege to help others share their stories.

STORY

In August 2016, I decided to step away from the newspaper industry and reassess my career path. I'd seen many talented colleagues and friends get laid off year after year and wanted to take control of my future rather than hope to survive each new round of cuts.

I decided this was as good a time as any to take a gap year and have devoted my days to learning to code, reading, reconnecting with friends and family, and traveling across the country. In May and June of 2017, I took a road trip across the American West visiting 15 national parks. It was a life-changing experience. I've built this site share my past and future adventures.

SITE

I want this website to be a place where you can go to learn about destinations you'd like to visit in the future, revisit places you already love, or to escape your present and lose yourself in the words and images right now.

This site is built from scratch and serves as a sandbox to test my skills in front-end development and web design. I'm a lover of immersive longform storytelling and would like to emulate some of the best examples I've encountered while developing my own unique ideas.

I'm also passionate about photography and interested in video production. All photos, videos and writings you see here are my own unless otherwise noted.

True solitude is found in the wild places, where one is without human obligation. One's inner voices become audible. One feels the attraction of one's most infinite sources.
